About the event
Come on an imaginary journey to the mysteries of Ancient Greece, to a sacred
sanctuary of prophetic trees. Far away in the mists of time, in a place called Dodona,
these primeval oaks were wise trees, extraordinary prophets with the power of human
speech. Their priestesses sometimes appeared as doves, their sacred brook was a
goddess who spoke, and together these enigmatic beings addressed mortal seekers
who journeyed far to hear their counsel. Let's circle up around one of WMP's majestic
oaks, to hear the fascinating evidence for Dodona's mystical oak grove that survives in
history, archaeology, and myth.
The 7:30 meeting time will allow us to take a short hike out to an oak, and then enjoy
the approaching sunset around the campfire. Please bring a chair or blanket to sit on.
These group hikes are brought to you by Friends of Wooster Memorial Park
(www.friendsofwmp.com) and are open to the public. Event will begin at the Education
Parking Area campfire circle. Come prepared for the weather and to have a good time!
